vineyards in Pope Valley
Pope Valley vineyards

Want to go really off the beaten path while visiting Napa Valley? No large tour buses, no shiny distracting objects. Just vineyards, nature, long empty roads without much traffic & delicious wine.

Pope Valley is close to Howell Mountain and about 30 minutes from Silverado Trail coming from St. Helena. It’s on the backside of the Howell Mountain town – Angwin & not much less populated.

It’s rural with fences, cows, horses and vineyards. It’s all about grape growing here. Before you go, you need to make an appointment & pick up sandwiches from Sunshine Market in St. Helena or at Oakville Grocery or have lunch at one of the many great restaurants around.

You may want to start on the way to Pope Valley at Cimarossa Vineyards on Howell Mountain.

Pope Valley Winery

Take the scenic route and end up at Pope Valley Winery. This winery dates back to 1897 & now produces Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Zinfandel grapes & wines. After tasting and purchasing some of their wines you can play bocce there or walk through their hand dug cave which is over a hundred years old. Relax & sip.
